Council is undertaking public consultation to invite feedback on the proposal for the identification of Strategic Routes and Priority Thoroughfares.
We have two Seismic Areas in the Mackenzie district – Aoraki/Mount Cook area and along the Main Divide is High Seismic Area, and the rest of the district is Medium Seismic Area. There are also two categories of buildings – “Priority” which are of greater risk to life, and “Other”. Both the Area and the Category impacts the time in which the buildings are required to be strengthen by.
“Priority” Buildings in the High Seismic Area have been identified and assessed – currently none are categorized as Earthquake Prone
“Other” Buildings in the High Seismic Area have been identified as Possibly Earthquake Prone Buildings.
Buildings in the Medium Seismic Area which may be Earthquake Prone have been identified. Public Consultation documents on the Strategic Transport Routes is currently being prepared and will soon go out for consultation. Once these Routes have been identified, the buildings to be categorised as “Priority” or “Other”.
Letters will then be forwarded to the Owners of the buildings identified informing them of the assessment and outlining the next steps to be taken in the process. This will take place before July 2022
