Have your say on the Draft Lake Ruataniwha Reserve Management Plan.

The Lake Ruataniwha Recreation Reserve Management Plan is now available for you to read and comment on.

Earlier in the year we asked you what was important to you in the reserve, and that feedback was taken into account when this document was drafted.

We have heard that the reserve is Twizel’s jewel in the crown, that the lagoon area is highly valued for informal recreation. We are keen to hear what you think of the draft plan.

The draft plan includes management and development direction for approximately 68ha of recreation reserve that extends around the lake from the boat launching area off Morrison Terrace to the designated freedom camping on Max Smith Drive (opposite the Pukaki Canal Road junction).

This is the first reserve management plan prepared for the reserve and its focus is on strategic planning rather than an operational matters. The plan’s aim is to guide day-to-day management in a way that reflects the values of mana whenua and the community.

The plan will guide decisions made in relation to the reserve, and Council will refer to it when approving events or granting leases to groups who want to use the reserve, and to guide development and environmental restoration activities.

The draft document is attached.

Draft Concept Plan

We have also attached a Draft Concept Plan which shows what a future look and feel for the reserve might be. We are also interested to know what you think of these ideas.
