We want your thoughts on the Fairlie community library?
We want your input into a decision Councillors need to make about ongoing financial support for the library in Fairlie.
Council contracts out the provision of library services to Mackenzie College to run a joint school/community library.
We all know costs have increased - for everything - and the school have come to Council requesting an increase in funding to cover their increased costs.
Councillors voted to increase the amount of funding for 2024/5 by $34,280 to enable the current level of service to continue while we ask the community what approach they'd like Council to take in the future.
Level of service in this context means things like the hours they open and the range of services they provide.
We do you think?
If we continue with this increase in the funding we give to the library, it will have a (very small) impact on rates.
If we do not continue with an increase the funding we give the library, it will have an impact on the services they can provide as they will have to work within the current funding. This is likely to mean the are open shorter hours during the week and do not open at all at the weekend.
