District Plan Review Stage Three


Stage 3 of the Mackenzie District Plan Review was notified on 4 November 2023, being the following proposed plan changes:

  • Plan Change 23 – General Rural Zone, Natural Features and Landscapes, Natural Character
  • Plan Change 24 – Sites and Areas of Significance to Māori
  • Plan Change 25 – Rural Lifestyle Zones
  • Plan Change 26 – Renewable Electricity Generation and Infrastructure
  • Plan Change 27 – Earthworks, Subdivision, Public Access and Transport

Any person who represents a relevant aspect of the public interest or who has an interest in the proposal that is greater than the interest the general public has may make a further submission.

A further submission may be made online below, or by email and/or post. Submissions must be in the format prescribed by Form 6 and must state whether or not you wish to be heard on your submission. Paper submission forms are available at the Council Offices in Fairlie and Twizel, and a PDF submission form is also available below.

The closing date for lodging a further submission with Council is 5.00pm Friday 1st March 2024.

Rules with immediate legal effect

All rules in Plan Change 24 – Sites and Areas of Significance to Māori and some rules in the subdivision chapter of Plan Change 27 – Subdivision, Earthworks, Transport and Public Access have immediate legal effect upon notification.

These rules are identified with a red ‘gavel’ icon and are highlighted with a red background in the EPlan.

The notice outlines amendments made to Plan Changes 23, 25, 26 and 27 on 8 December 2023, in accordance with Schedule 1 Clause 16(2) of the Resource Management Act 1991. To view this notice click here.
